Below is in response to The Parish Council's enquiry as to the progress of the Planning Application for site 64, the field by Priors Hill, opposite the water tower.

Friday 15th January 2010

Dear Ms Smart

The Council's formal response to the Land Allocations Additional Suggested Sites consultation will be published when we publish our preferred options for which sites we wish to pursue from both this consultation and the previous Land Allocations Issues & Options Paper of January 2008.  At present, we are hoping to take this document through committee in December 2010 with a view to holding public consultation during the first couple of months of 2011.  The reason for the long gap is that we have to advance another document, our Core Strategy, to the next stage before we can proceed to the next stage on the land allocations - we are hoping to take the Core Strategy (pre-submission draft) through committee in June 2010 with the public consultation being in September and October.

That said, it may be possible to glean some form of a steer from the Core Strategy on the likely approach to Pirton in general - in the previous draft of the Core Strategy (the preferred options draft of September 2007) we did not envisage any changes to the village's existing settlement boundary.  As site 64 from the Additional Suggested Sites consultation is a substantial site (relative to the size of the village) and outside the existing settlement boundary, it would be difficult to justify pursuing this site if the Core Strategy retains its current wording with respect to Pirton.

I hope this helps explain the situation.

Yours sincerely

Richard Kelly
Senior Planning Officer
